The same symptom can happen with some mesh-router guest networks, apartment or dorm networks, work or school networks, VPN profiles, and security apps that block local network discovery. Treat it as a network reachability problem first, not a cartridge or drum problem.

  • Move the phone, tablet, Chromebook, Mac, or PC off guest Wi-Fi for the test.
  • Wake the printer and print a network status page if the printer menu offers one.
  • Check whether the printer is joined to the old router, a guest SSID, or no network at all.

If the printer has Ethernet, it does not always need to be on Wi-Fi. A wired printer can still be discoverable from a phone or laptop on Wi-Fi if both sides are on the same local network and the printer supports that platform's print path.

  • Connect the device to the normal home or office Wi-Fi network, not the guest network.
  • If the printer has a screen or report, compare its network name or IP address with the device network.

Use a cable when one computer urgently needs to print or when you want to separate printer hardware from wireless discovery. For phones and tablets, stay with official platform and printer-maker paths rather than adapter chains or unofficial utilities.

A missing printer in the device picker is not evidence that the printer needs ink, toner, a drum, a maintenance box, rollers, or a replacement printhead. Buy supplies only when the printer's own screen, status page, or official app reports the exact part and the model fit is verified.

Avoid apps or downloads that promise universal printer discovery, firmware bypasses, chip resets, waste-ink resets, or one-click repair. Those claims can create security, warranty, and printer-safety problems without solving network isolation.
